Michael Burkitt is a Leeds based artist engaged in a practice turned on by live art. He is currently attending (MA) Contemporary Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University contributing most recently to COLLABORATION:TRANSMISSION, a collaborative virtual space for MA students around the world.

Scunthorpe born Burkitt has shown consistently in the UK and internationally and is a member of D.I.Y art group Black Dogs. He has just selected the 2009 Harry Meadley Prize at Leeds College of Art and Design.

MB: I initiate actions, events and interruptions interrogating the aesthetics of presence and power. These encounters are framed within appropriate contexts to animate the content of the work. I generously host my work. Hospitality conceives a limit upon where the other can trespass, it has a tendency to be rather inhospitable. This altruistic aporia questions the nature of the decisions we make and how they define us, accentuating our ritualised activities and the images we create.
